Best Dance Movies Ever!

There are many dance movies to watch, but which are the best? Some of the best include Center Stage, Strictly Ballroom, Dirty Dancing, and Honey. The list goes on, but these movies all have their place in my heart. Let's start with the most iconic dance movie of all time - "Strictly Ballroom."

Center Stage

The first full-length ballet movie directed by a woman, Center Stage is a romantic comedy with a plot involving a prima ballerina and a fearsome artistic director. In a story based on real events, the film's plot revolves around a dance studio and its fearsome artistic director, played by Peter Gallagher. A prima ballerina, Jody, is stolen from her protege, Sascha Radetsky, by the 'daddy'. In the end, however, it is up to Cooper Nielsen to save the day, and their relationship.

Honey

The Honey Dance Movie is a contemporary hip-hop comedy-drama about the struggles of people of colour to make it big in the world of entertainment. Based on the life of dancer Laurieann Gibson, the film features a Black choreographer as well as her own daughter, Cassie. The film stars Aaliyah as the lead character. However, in a surprising twist, Jessica Alba plays the role of Honey. Both Aaliyah and Laurieann Gibson are Black.

Strictly Ballroom

One of the most well known dance movies of all time is Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom, which was released in 1992. It's a witty, romantic comedy with thrilling dance scenes. It inspired a new era in Australian cinema, and later was adapted to a stage musical. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or simply a beginner, you'll love Strictly Ballroom.

Dirty Dancing

The movie's star-studded cast includes Jennifer Grey, the daughter of Oscar-winning actor Joel Grey, and Patrick Swayze. Both actors studied dance in Manhattan before playing the lead roles. And if you're a fan of dancing, Dirty Dancing will make you cry. Here are five reasons why. One: It's romantic. The dancing is spectacular!

Cabaret

This musical has earned an impressive list of awards, including Best Picture and Best Original Song. Its story centers around the Moulin Rouge dance hall, where two beautiful women come together and find love. Although the movie was based on a Broadway show, the storyline is grounded in real life. The movie is a period snapshot of an era where glitz and glamour were in short supply. The film features beautiful songs and a group of sad hookers. The movie won eight Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Liza Minelli, Best Supporting Actress for Joel Grey and Best Original Score for a dazzling choreography.

An American in Paris

A classic movie made in 1937, An American in Paris is one of the most memorable examples of musical and artistic collaboration. The film features the work of George Gershwin, and features no non-Gershwin music. Its lyrics, however, are by Alan Jay Lerner. The story revolves around a starving artist, a former GI (Gene Kelly), and a composer (Oscar Levant).

Romeo and Juliet

A college student drops out of school to use his talent as a dancer in his community. In order to do so, he rents a failing theatre and stages a hip-hop production of Romeo and Juliet. But the project is doomed by arguments among the cast members, and the whole thing is threatened with failure. This is what happens in this Romeo and Juliet dance movie. In order to stop the project from failing, the student must first figure out how to fix the problems within the cast.
